So is now a bad time to need to sell a 2020 RadCity 4?

Still trying to figure out a replacement bike after my main commuter was declared unsafe by the U.S. government. Juggling price, geometry, maintenance, practicality, and everything else.

Black Friday is one of the worst things to ever happen to our world, but if I had to suddenly consider finding an expensive replacement for the bike I use to regularly commute to work, I guess I’m glad the choice came up this week?

Dammit, now is not a great time to be looking for a replacement ebike. And it looks like Rad is going under, too? Ugh.

Ebike adventure of the day: Taking a speed bump so fast it disconnected an important cord, and I spend a couple minutes trying to figure out why I lost power.

Not only did my e-bike’s battery charger short out but the slow leak in the rear tire also turned into a straight up flat soon thereafter. Thanks to the student-run bike workshop on campus, I still got home in time to pick up kiddo from school, but I remain grumpy.

Not thrilled about the faint burning plastic smell that was coming from the charger for my e-bike’s battery today. (I immediately unplugged it and have reluctantly added replacing it to today’s to-do list).

Does anyone out there have experience with Tannus tire armor on an ebike? My local shop is recommending it, but I don’t know if it’s good advice or if I’m being upsold.

We read Cory Doctorow’s “Unauthorized Bread” in my class on computer fundamentals, and I try to share actual examples of how tech companies going bankrupt can create actual problems like in the story. Bookmarking this for next time I teach.

I ride an e-bike into work, and because an e-bike is expensive, I bring it into my office rather than lock it up at one of the bike racks on University of Kentucky campus. Because an e-bike is heavy, I also take it up the elevator to get up to the third floor, where my office is. My e-bike takes up a lot of space, but I’ve figured out how to share the elevator with others as I make my way up to my office. I lead my bike in, getting the front wheel as far toward the back of the elevator as I can, and then swing it around to the left as I pick up my rear wheel and try to tuck it in to the opposite (front) corner of the elevator. It takes a little bit of effort, but I know I can get it in there; because I also know it’s going to take some effort to get my bike out, I usually face the rear of the elevator during the ride, which is short enough that there’s no point in turning around to face “the front” of the elevator only to turn back around again to take control of my handlebars and wheel the bike back out.

Keeping an eye on this! E-bikes are exciting.

Passing a car through an intersection or keeping up with it in a roundabout is one of the greatest pleasures of commuting by e-bike.

TIL that if you don’t keep an e-bike adequately charged, all of that fancy-but-heavy pedal assist equipment is as much of a liability for your commute as it usually is an asset.
