š linkblog: Kentucky governor vetoes sweeping GOP transgender measure | Lexington Herald Leader'
Good for Andy. One thing I personally appreciate about Governor Beshear is that he so often invokes his faith as a Democrat. Granted, itās probably a calculated decision in such a red state, and Iām still uncomfortable with how faith and politics are intertwined in the U.S., but it shows that faith doesnāt have to be queerphobic.

š linkblog: Voters in Kansas decide to keep abortion legal in the state, rejecting an amendment ā 89.3 WFPL News Louisville'

š bookblog: New Seeds of Contemplation (ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøš¤)
A friend gave me this book as a gift for my confirmation nearly a year ago. I wasnāt sure what I would think about it, but I was excited about Mertonās connection with Kentucky, and I figured that if my friend liked it, it ought to be pretty good.
I finally decided to dive in and while I have a good opinion of it overall, I think my response is better described as mixed.

š linkblog: LGBTQ advocates raise alarm against trans attacks in Ky. legislature ā 89.3 WFPL News Louisville'
I have spent a few hours this week reading violently anti-trans posts as part of a research project. My patience for queerphobic dog whistles disguised as feigned concerns about girlsā sports is at zero. So disappointed in the Kentucky legislature.
š linkblog: Kentucky lawmakers advance bill to resettle war refugees | Lexington Herald Leader'
I do not always have praise for the local Republican supermajority, but Iām glad to see this goes beyond Ukraine to provide support for all kinds of refugees. Tentative optimism here.
š linkblog: Ky. lawmaker apologizes for comments about Jewish women during abortion debate | Lexington Herald Leader'

We should all be concerned about this. Describing this as āhigh techā in the first line of the story fetishizes surveillance. Itās gross.
š bookblog: Dear Ann (ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø)
I probably would not have read this book on my own but it was selected as the 2022 Kentucky Reads selection by Kentucky Humanities. I noticed that in a headline somewhere (probably the Herald-Leader) and decided it was worth giving it a shot.
I ended up enjoying the book a lot! It plays with themes of nostalgia and wondering if the past could have or should have been different. Iāve been thinking about both of those things a lot recently, including in the context of my faith transition.
